THe design question.

"How can we ensure that the target audience is better informed about the underlying production process of sustainable products?"

what i designed.

Saving card.

The "Sustainable Saving Card" rewards consumers with stickers for each sustainable product they purchase. Once the card is full, they can choose a free sustainable product. This addresses concerns about sustainability and the higher cost of eco-friendly products, offering a free item to compensate for the expense.

Alternative product pop-up.

A pop-up suggests more sustainable alternatives to non-sustainable products. It includes easy-to-understand infographics about the production process and packaging materials to build trust and reduce fears of greenwashing. For more details, customers can visit the product page. This helps address confusion about what makes a product sustainable and reduces greenwashing concerns.

CO2 counter.

The "CO2 and plastic meter" shows the grams of CO2 or plastic saved, compared to items like T-shirts or bottles. This encourages sustainable choices. However, if customers switch back to non-sustainable products, they lose their free product and stamps. This feature emphasizes the impact of their choices on CO2 emissions, addressing concerns about environmental impact for themselves and future generations.

what i learned.

Importance of clear roles.

Initially, our team operated without clearly defined roles, leading to confusion and inefficiencies. Recognizing this, I took the initiative to consult with our instructor and proposed a role distribution strategy within our Miro board. This included assigning myself to the prototyping role. Once roles were clearly defined, the division of tasks became more organized, and team members could focus on their specific areas of expertise. This experience underscored the critical importance of establishing clear roles and responsibilities in a team to enhance productivity and ensure that all necessary aspects of a project are covered efficiently.

Utilizing more resources.

To improve my proficiency with design tools like Figma, I supplemented my learning with YouTube tutorials. These tutorials, particularly those by Caler Edwards and Jesse Showalter, provided valuable insights and practical tips that significantly enhanced my skill set. This self-directed learning approach allowed me to handle more complex design tasks and create high-fidelity prototypes with confidence. It underscored the value of utilizing readily available online resources to bridge knowledge gaps and develop technical skills essential for project success.

Balanced responsibilities.

While my primary role was in prototyping, I consciously made an effort to stay involved in other aspects of the project, particularly field research. This balanced approach ensured I did not neglect any critical areas of our project. I worked on improving my interviewing skills, which were initially a challenge for me, and applied these skills in conducting more effective customer journey interviews. This experience taught me the importance of a well-rounded involvement in a project, ensuring a holistic approach and contributing to the project's success beyond my designated role.

Embracing challenges and new opportunities.

Throughout the project, I faced various challenges that pushed me to learn and adapt. These experiences sparked a deeper interest in prototyping and user interface design, guiding my focus for future projects and internships. By embracing these challenges and viewing them as opportunities for growth, I was able to develop a stronger skill set and a clearer career direction. This mindset shift towards viewing obstacles as learning opportunities has been incredibly valuable, setting a solid foundation for my professional development and future endeavors.

Continuous adaptability.

Throughout the project, we continuously refined our communication methods and role distribution to enhance our team's productivity. By maintaining updates in Miro and holding virtual meetings via Teams, we ensured we stayed connected and coordinated, even outside studio hours. This adaptability in our workflow allowed us to manage our tasks more effectively and respond promptly to any changes or challenges. It highlighted the importance of flexibility and continuous improvement in project management to achieve better collaboration and successful outcomes.
